Published 9 January, 2008

Alone on the Soaks: The Life and Times of Alec Kruger, co-authored by Alec Kruger and Gerard Waterford, published by Alice Springs-based Indigenous publisher IAD Press, has been announced as the winner of the 2007 Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission's (HREOC) human rights nonfiction award.

The award's judges said that Kruger's recollections of his tough life as a member of the Stolen Generation ‘are distilled into a powerful biography that ranges over eighty-plus years of living and battling ... Presented in a compelling, original voice, this book enhances our understanding of the diverse journeys of Australia's stolen generations.'

IAD Press publisher Jill Walsh said ‘the team at IAD Press is proud to have published Alec Kruger's life story. Alec has struggled and fought all his life for things most of us take for granted--pride, respect, a sense of belonging and worth, and a day's pay for a day's work.'
