Jillian Durance has won the main prize at the 2007 Victorian Community History Awards.
Jillian Durance has won the main prize at the 2007 Victorian Community History Awards for Still Going Strong: The Story of the Moyarra Honor Roll (Moyarra Community Group). Judges described her study of the tiny Korumburra hamlet of Moyarra, and its 28 volunteers in the First World War, as 'sensitively written' and 'heart-touching'. Sponsored by Information Victoria, the awards celebrate 'the importance of local and community history as a form of collective memory.'
Other books to be honoured in the awards included: The Encyclopedia of Melbourne (Andrew Brown-May, CUP), Aboriginal Victorians: A History Since 1800 (Richard Broom, A&U), Footscray Trail: A Guided Walk through the Historic Central Business District (Ruth Gallant, Footscray Reference Group), From Gold to Grapes: The Story of Landsborough (Landsborough Festivals Inc.) and Jazz Spans the Decades: A History of Jazz in Victoria (Victorian Jazz Archives).
